Doorway to 934

The stairway and the darkness on the outside of the painting set up a beautiful opportunity to bring the viewer right up to the door and engage with the inside. There's a lot of use of reflected light in the painting as well as a grayed-off version of a red/green color harmony. The building itself had a lot of personality with its lack of straight lines, peeling paint and worn-out floors. It's not something you can walk by without taking a second glance.
