Oil on Russian birch. Night Shift reflects my experiences of spotting and observing owls in Algonquin Park. The barred owl (at top) is the most common owl in the park, and the saw-whet (top right)
is often seen as well. The other two owls (long-eared and boreal) are irregular and rare visitors. The concept was to create a painting that would not only record, but convey the quality of 'owlness' regardless of whether or not we know the specific species being observed.
