Thoughts Take Flight

Oil on Canvas. Thoughts Take Flight began as a straight forward portrait, but by the time I had established a final drawing I began to see how the girl's posture and expression could be developed into something more. She appears lost in thought, but the concept of representing her thoughts with small colourful birds came two years later when the title 'Thoughts Take Flight' suddenly came to me out of nowhere. It took five months to complete, with over half of that in research and creating postures and final drawings for the birds .... including many that never made their way into the painting.
