The Reunion

Reunion is a watercolor painting taken from an old family photo that has intrigued me for years. I loved the reflections in the water and the varied clothing on the subjects, particularly the tie on the young lad on the right. Because of the age of the photo I decided to distress the watercolor paper by soaking it and wadding it up before the painting process. I then add a light wash of color over the entire surface creating a batik effect. this makes preserving whites very difficult. I was happy that I was able to able to lift the color from the white shirts.
